Alana-Kathryn Mathers

Alana hails from Inchinnan, in Renfrewshire, and moved to Argyll in 2012 after graduating from the University of the West of Scotland with a First Class Honours Degree, and securing a graduate placement in rural Cowal.

After trying out various instruments, Alana picked up her first guitar at the age of 8, and has never looked back. With the guitar came more confidence, and then real passion for singing was born.

On moving to Argyll, and being the ‘new girl in town’, Alana joined a local choir to meet people in this new rural setting she found herself in, and from that met two fellow musicians in search of a third band mate…

Alana can currently be found gigging with ‘Cowal’s magical harmony group’ (Dunoon Observer, 2015) ‘Kantrio’, where she plays guitar and sings with fellow band-mates Kirsteen Black and Nikki Brown.

Grasping any opportunity to have a singsong, Alana currently co-runs ‘Grace Notes Community Choir’ in Strachur, and is a member of The ColGlen Chorus.

Delighted and thrilled to be a part of the Music Makes Me project, Alana’s still quite bemused that the version of ‘Down by the Shore’ on this album is ‘the same wee song’ she has been ‘fiddling about with’ and ‘singing away to herself’ for the past year!
